Vet Endoscopy

Veterinary endoscopy is a great tool for current veterinary medicine as it is a noninvasive option for getting solutions or diagnosis's for our pets.  At Lisner Animal Hospital we have a veterinary endoscopy that does perform upper gastrointestinal scopes.  We also can perform cystoscopies or rhinoscopies in patients this is indicated.

Why would you pick an endoscopy procedure over a surgical one?

The biggest reason that this has become more and more in favor is because of the less pain caused by the endoscopy vs surgical options.

If your interested in learning more about endoscopy p[lease speak to one of our on staff veterinarians to learn more.  Here is a list of diseases or indications for endoscopy.
  • Small Intestinal Disease: This can be inflammatory, allergic, or neoplastic conditions of the small intestine.  The endoscope would get live pictures and videos of this area, as well as take a biopsy to diagnose the condition.
  • Stomach Foreign Body: In veterinary medicine, this is the most common cause of using our endoscopy unit.  This is the retrieval of a foreign object stuck in the stomach. For example, a dog who ate half a tennis ball, the scope can go and retrieve this without pain or trauma.
  • Esophageal disease: The visualization of ulcerations, regurgication, or primary esophageal diseases.
  • Soft Palate: The visualization behind the soft palate of diseases like a polyp.
  • Colon:  Colonoscopy procedures are not routine in dogs and cats like they are in people but there are indications for this.  The endoscopy is able to noninvasively look at and diagnose neoplasia or ulcerations of the colon.  Rarely are there foreign body retrievals from the colon in the dog or cat.
  • Nose:  A rigid short scope can be sued to perform a rhinoscopy looking for disease, foreign objects, or neoplasia.
  • Bladder:  A short rigid scope can be sued in the female medium to large patient for visualization of the urethra, trigone or bladder anatomy.

What Patients Are Saying About Us
I needed a second opinion on euthanizing my 14-year-old dog, though I am not ready to leave my regular vet. They saw us right away and agreed to share info with my regular vet. Dr Alex was very professional and answered all my questions. I am even considering Walnut Lake for future visits with my other pets!
Kelly
Dr. G was not only able to. get us in so quickly but was able to see the pain our pet was in and offered to do the surgery same day, we have never seen such a compassionate vet & clinic! I cant say good enough things about Dr. G and the way he is taking care of our collie!
Dan
I found 2 stray kittens that were abandoned near our house one night during my walk. These little guys were skin and bones. It was nearly closing time when I called Walnut Lake Animal Hospital and they didn't hesitate for a single second to stay open past work hours to look at the kittens. The Vet and his staff were so kind and generous with their time and services. I definitely recommend this Veterinary practice to anyone who has pets, or is looking for a reliable and trustworthy veterinarian!
